its always something

Emmett woke up with a 102.5 fever this morning. No runny nose, no cough, no sign of what could be causing the fever, so off to the ER Emmett and Mike went. You see, we’ve been told by multiple doctors that if he runs a fever for no apparent reason, he must be taken in both because of the intestinal surgery (possible adhesion causing a blockage) and because of his hypospadias/dilated kidneys (possible bladder/kidney infection).

And bless them, they were there ALL DAY LONG. Apparently the ER staff at the base tried unsuccessfully to catheterize him 3 times before Mike said no more. Eventually they taped a plastic bag around his package to see if he’d urinate in the bag. And I guess Emmett was feeling uncooperative (can you really blame him), and chose to wait hours to pee. In the end, he peed a little bit, and they ran a quick urinalysis, which turned out normal.

So…the ER people put in a call to our pediatrician, and he’s supposed to be calling us tomorrow to check on him. He still has the fever, although it is pretty much controlled with motrin.

I wonder what the rest of the weekend will hold. Needless to say, we didn’t get Christmas decorations up today.

Oh, and did I mention that Mike leaves town on Monday for another week and a half? Hopefully this fever thing will be sorted by then.

Good times.

I hope everyone in the States had fun shopping today. I only left the house to pick up O from school. In my pjs, no less.

Crap. Things were looking up, too. Poor Emmett. Poor Mike and Lauren, too. I hope that fever gets the heck outta here soon.

I shopped from home today in my PJs. We also went to drop off and pick up John’s car — did that in my PJs too. So we are two of a kind today 🙂

Having a pj day is a good thing! Sorry to hear about the fever. Hopefully it’s nothing big. Poor Emmett and Mike for having to be at the ER so long.

No shopping for me. I worked and it was crazy busy!

  4. I hope the fever is nothing too big. You just don’t need one more thing.

Dear Lauren and Mike and kids,

We keep praying for you guys- it looks like a really tough time for ya’ll. We are proud of you and Mike for your love to your kids and your diligence. We pray that God’s grace and mercy continues to hold you up and that Emmet may be healed. Psalm 121.
