True Colors

At our base’s OSC (officer’s spouses club) meeting today, we had these 2 ladies come in to talk about our True Colors. This being a military group, I was expecting something about patriotism and red, white, and blue. Instead, we got this. From the website:

Orange represents energy, consuming physiological potency, power, and strength. Orange is the expression of vital force, of nervous and glandular activity. Thus, it has the meaning of desire and all forms of appetite and craving. Those with Orange as a Primary Color feel the will to achieve results, to win, to be successful. They desire all things that offer intense living and full experience.

Orange generates an impulse toward active doing: sport, struggle, competition and enterprising productivity. In temporal terms, Orange is the present.

Gold is the body’s natural perceptions. It represents a need to be responsible, to fulfill duties and obligations, to organize and structure our life and that of others. Those with Gold as a Primary Color value being practical and sensible. They believe that people should earn their way in life through work and service to others.

Gold reflects a need to belong through carrying a share of the load in all areas of living. It represents stability, maintenance of the culture and the organization, efficiency, and dependability. It embraces the concepts of home and family with fierce loyalty and faithfulness.

Green expresses itself psychologically as human will in operation: as persistence and determination. Green is an expression of firmness and consistency. Its strength can lead to a resistance to change if it is not proven that the change will work or is warranted. Those with Green as a Primary Color value their intellect and capabilities above all else. Comfort in these areas creates a sense of personal security and self-esteem.

Green characteristics seek to increase the certainty of their own values through being assertive and requiring differences from others in intellectual areas. They are rarely settled in their countenance, since they depend upon information rather than feelings to create a sense of well-being. Green expresses the grounding of theory and data in its practical applications and creative constructs.

 Blue represents calm. Contemplation of this color pacifies the central nervous system. It creates physiological tranquility and psychological contentment. Those with Blue as a Primary Color value balance and harmony. They prefer lives free from tension… settled, united, and secure.

Blue represents loyalty and a sense of belonging, and yet, when friends are involved, a vulnerability. Blue corresponds to depth in feeling and a relaxed sensitivity. It is characterized by empathy, aesthetic experiences, and reflective awareness.

We all got assessed, and I ended up being tied for orange and blue…which means I’m a crybaby-touchy-feely-competitive-risk-taker (???)…and actually, that’s not that far off, I don’t think. It was interesting: my closest friend here was a total green, and she so IS everything they described, and embraces those qualities, which is why I love her. Several interesting things came out of this meeting: 1) half of the ladies at the meeting were gold, which I scored last in (although I do a lot of “goldish” things because I’m a mom, but I tried to answer the questions about my true personality, not what I do on a daily basis for the good of my family); 2) gold is the opposite of orange, meaning these 2 groups can struggle to communicate with each other; and 3) Hunky is SO a gold (I know how he would answer the questions, he doesn’t even need to be consulted, which is a good thing, ’cause he’s out of town). In fact, I would venture to say that he would score way way way low in blue, very low in orange, medium in green, and off the charts high in gold. No wonder it feels like we’re talking in different languages sometimes.

So I’m not suggesting that anyone pay for the analysis – I got mine for free (or for $29, if you count the $15 meal and $14 childcare, which – COME ON), but it was much more interesting to me than a talk about patriotism.

On another note, the boys and I have had a rough day – they were great for the sitter at the meetting, but for the rest of the day, have been fighting like cats and dogs. Rarrr….its been hard to keep my temper, and I haven’t been entirely successful, which means I yelled at them, which makes them cry (’cause I don’t really yell at them hardly ever – we are big fans of the naughty chair at our house), which always makes me feel like a horrible mom. It was a very good thing for everyone when bedtime came around, and hopefully tomorrow will be better.

Man, I wish ya’ll could take the quiz for free – I want to know what colors you guys are! And I wish the explanation of the colors on the website was what was on the cards they gave us, ’cause the cards were much better. Unfortunately, I left my cards at the meeting, so ya’ll can’t get the good stuff….sorry.

***edited to add: I don’t know why the blue explanation is all bold. I just cut and pasted from the website – maybe they totally think blue is the best way to be? Which it IS, along with orange 🙂
